Have heard them mentioned loads - are they really good for washing nappies?

Yes, your nappies won't be left with any washing powder residue, which can make them smell strange when weed on. For that reason they are also good if your child has sensitive skin. And very environmentally friendly. You might need to use something in addition for stubborn stains though!

BarefootJasnem · 20/09/2006 15:45

Where do I get them?

Tatties · 20/09/2006 19:10

If you google soap nuts it will come up with some places to buy them. I got mine from here - they do a little trial size, which I got and lasted me ages.

Can you use soapnuts on fuzzy buns and other fleece stuff? Anyone know? The FB website says not to use natural soap products because they leave an oil residue, but I'm not sure whether this applies to soapnuts.

AlfredAitchcock · 30/10/2006 12:02

this is a bit pushy i know but if anyone's ordering them might they do so from inasoapnutshell ?
it's only because i kinda knew the woman who set up the business on another website. she had a tough time of it, conception-wise (as did we all on that particular site) and i think that setting up her website was brave and clever of her. I think she is a mum now, so it's nice to think that we are supporting another one of us, in a way...
If she's not the cheapest or whatever i imagine she'd match whatever others are doing, she didn't seem daft to me.
sorry for the slight hijack.
and i use soapnuts, they are excellent. a splash of lavender essential oil in the fabric softener (which you don't need) drawer is lovely.

Aitch,I ordered mine through hers, thanks to an MNers recommendations (you??) and it was great.
Efficient delivery, loads of useful info and lovely little muslin bag.

They are ace.I have just put through the worst nappy anyone has ever seen and by God,the soap nuts have given it a good seeing to.

Aitchisforhellishdifficult · 30/10/2006 15:37

no, that's the first time i've ever mentioned them - good to know that someone else is on board too, she did seem like a really nice woman.

lemonAIIEEE · 30/10/2006 16:04

Yes, they work fine on FBs and similar (I'd been washing them like that for ages anyway, then discussed with a WAHM who makes a FB-style nappy and she agreed soap nuts would be fine).

The thing I'm never sure of with soap nuts is whether the tree-hugginess of using them is outweighed by the ecological footprint of shipping them over to the UK. I did ask one of the suppliers and they said, effectively, "ooh, good question" but didn't have any figures one way or the other.

i just like the idea that dd's skin is coming into contact with fewer chemicals.

Can I just ask a question as well please?

I bought some and got them the other day, love how they look and smell..

How many halves would you use if you were washing about 8 Wonderoos and inserts?
Can I still use Vinegar at the same time?
