how to stop one year old hitting????

My ds finds it fun to smack. Any good tips on how to stop him doing this? Ive tried just saying no hitting, but no luck.

used to watch supernanny, she used to get down to the child's level, point at them (?) and say no hitting and be really consistent with them; i.e., no tapping even in "fun", especially between parents when children were in vicinity. i think she also used naughty spot for 1yr olds and they stayed on there for one full minute until they said sorry or similar. hth x

wow really didnt know you could use naughty step for one year olds. Youve reminded me ive actually got a suppernanny book somewhere ill dig it out and have a read. Thanks.

not really a naughty step, paerhaps a naughty spot on part of floor inboring part of room, the idea is that they don't get negative attention for being naughty, just removed from situation and just positive when good. i think a new series has started on ch4, not sure when. i used to watch it on sky - i think more4.
