How to get ds ready to start nursery?

Ds is 11 months and will be staying nursery at the beginning of September. I don't go to any mum and baby groups as there are none in my area and also I am back at work since February. He's going through quite a clingy stage and still has a nap in the morning around 9.30 for an hour which won't happen at nursery. He starts to get really grumpy by about 11 without this nap.

Does anyone have any advice about how best to prepare him for what's to come???

I'm not sure you need to do anything tbh. If it's a half decent nursery then they will be happy to go with his routines although you might find that being at nursery gradually changes them.

Both ds1 & 2 ended up having a nursery routine and a home routine without any coercion. Ds2 (15mo) still has 2 good naps at home including one at 9.30/10 but is happy to go most of the day at nursery (3 days pw) with just a short nap after lunch, I suspect because so much is going on.

My chap had a different routine at nursery to home for quite a while. They were just too busy to fit him his two naps! He'd have a lovely long one instead when all the other babies did.

I agree that your nursery will help him settle and help him adapt to the new rules.

I wouldn't do anything specific just give nursery his routine.

My ds has been at nursery a few weeks now and I was so worried as he is a bad daytime napper normally but really needs to nap.

I was so worried he wouldn't sleep and would be hideously over tired.

However, he's been completely fine. Naps great at nursery (much better than home!) and they're good at sticking to his routine as much as possible.

He's also settled into the nursery routine in terms of meal times etc.

I'm sure your ds will be fine too Smile
