Sick baby

Hi

My 3month old had a stomach bug from wed-fri and he's now not been sick for 48hrs so I'm guessing it's out of his wee system. He is bright and alert however his appetite is still not back, we are managing to get around 20oz in him in 24hra compared to his normal 35. We aren't forcing him but encouraging little and often.

I've been to docs who said he looked well but to watch for dehydration. Anyway he is doing wet nappies although they are not as heavy as normal which I guess is understandable as less fluid is going in.

Anyway do u think he appetite will come back soon and if not when do I go back to the docs? He was a very healthy 15lbs pre bug but as time goes on he will be losing more weight.

Unfortunately I now have the bug and can't look after him today which makes me feel even more guilty. I'm just so worried about my little baby :( He is still a bit pale and tired but other than that he is happy and smiling loads. Just want him back to normal!!

It will take a few days until his appetite comes back fully and I wouldn't worry if his nappies and bowel movements are still happening. Lo I look after had sickness 2 weeks back and now he's right as rain.
It can be very worrying but it sounds like your doing everything correctly. Sorry your now feeling rubbish get well soon Thanks

Thanks for replying, u have reassured me a bit. He's still going to the toilet which is the main thing and I will just continue to keep an eye on that. It's just so stressful watching your baby struggle to eat when he normally guzzles his food! Anyway hopefully we will both be fully recovered by the middle of the week :)

It will take a few days but he will for his appetite back. Its just like when adults have the bug and can't face their normal amount of food for a few days after.

He will also put the weight back on fairly quickly. My ds2 had gastroenteritis for over a week and didn't take any milk for 5 days, just a few oz of water per day. He lost a lot of weight but he bounced back within two months of getting over the bug. He did look awful while he was ill as his eyes were sunken due to borderline dehydration and his ribs were sticking out. Within a few days of getting over the bug he looked much better just a bit skinny.
