Why has my 12 week old suddenly become hungry all the time

Usually feeds every 3 hours (120mls) during the day and at night could go 5 hours but the past two days has been crying for milk every 2 hours, will drink the full 120 mls and again 2 hours later be crying, sucking hands like he is starving.

Hv had said to feed on demand but doctor has said not to give more than 120mls every 3 hours and that is more than enough (dr worked out that he should be having that mych due to his weight)

Not sure what to do as i do not want to leave hom hungry but then dr has said not to give him more

Any advice appreciated

X

Drs are rubbish at this stuff. I only go by how much they should be having if they're not having enough otherwise feed on demand. Your lo is probably going through a growth spurt so stick with it and it will settle down again soon.

Drs should know better than to try and tell you to make dc go without food if hungry.

Growth spurt.

Feed on demand. Ignore daft doctor. Their requirements go up and down, and can't be worked out purely by weight.

Check poos ok and not constipated in which case consider water, but otherwise feed.

Massive growth spurt at 12 weeks. Shouldn't last long.

Thank you so much for your advice.
I couldn't believe the dr actually said to not give him more even if he is clearly still hungry. Will keep feeding as and when xx

Growth spurt. I would make each bottle 150mls and see how you go. You can always drop back to 120mls if he's not taking it all.

Really...it had no idea it could take that long. Thank you, i was thinking something could be wrong x

by 12 weeks 120ml is hardly anything. I would offer 180ml and 210 if he drains that. It is normal at that age for them to be moving towards 5 feeds a day. The other funny thing is the amount they have - dd2 took loads more than dd1 despite this they weighed pretty much exactly the same to 6 months and dd1 was the active/wriggly one. Confused

The doctor really is talking out of his arse. If you give them too little they just feed more often so it probably comes to the same.

Growth spurt, we are breastfeeding but my little girl was back to feeding every hour for a couple of days last week! Now sorted it out and she's back to normal.

Toohotforfishandchips · 14/08/2014 21:18

Well
Known growth spurt

Shahsham · 14/08/2014 21:21

Yup growth spurt. My bf on demand baby was wanting feeding most hours a couple if weeks ago (12 weeks) so I googled it Smile Lasted about 5 days I think

BertieBotts · 14/08/2014 21:56

What does he expect you to do, feed the baby gruel? Poor thing! I agree with the others, you sound like you're doing great :)

when they start draining bottles, add an extra ounce to each. 12 weeks is a classic growth spurt age so feed to his appetite.
