i know your supposed to sterilise everything for a 14week old, but i breastfeed so not an issue, however i think he is teething so i sterilised a teething ring for him, but because he cant hold onto it i put it on the table or settee, but then i wont give it back to him incase theres germs on it

do i keep sterilising it every 5mins? what would you do?

I wouldn't worry too much if you just put it on the table or settee inbetween, I really wouldn't. I would just sterilize it once in 24 hours maybe.

there probably will be germs on it, but you have to expose him to some germs, or his immune system won't develope. I agree that once every 24 hours, ie, overnight, is fine.

thanks girls, i thought with my 2nd i would be more relaxed but things are so different, ds1 wasnt teething so early so didnt need to worry

I just put teething rings etc into a clean sandwich box or similar. I used to rinse things under the tap if they dropped them. You can't sterilise everything, but you can keep things reasonably clean. It is important to sterilise milk bottles and food/ feeding items because milk is such a wonderful thing for breeding bacteria very quickly.

DS is 16 wks and his big brother "cleans" his dummy by sucking it and sticking it in his nose and eyes or until he gets it in his mouth. I sterlilize his bottle as milk is a breeding ground for bacteria but his toys, teething rings, dummies etc, I have had to be more relaxed with as I have no choice! As my Great Nan said, "You'll eat a bucket of earth before you die luv"

I steralised all the time when DS was that age, but like you got fed up with it. He wasn't that keen on teething rings, but when we did use them we wiped them with dettol antibacterial wipes rather than steralise.
Now he puts everything in his mouth so hopeless trying to steralise
