Children's Rhyme Driving Me NUTS - Please Help!!!

Okay, ds came out with this rhyme in the car, which he's obviously learnt at nursery. He wasn't very coherent, and I've forgotten bits of it, but it's driving me nuts trying to work out what the rhyme is, so I thought you knowledgeable lot might know it and know what all the words are!!!

There's lots of gaps... sorry!

helicopter, helicopter, will you come to tea?
[.....] half past three
daddy [....sommat about cakes?...] make a nice cup of tea
[.......] half past three.

Now, to make things harder, he has a habit of substituting words and phrases just to drive me insane. For example: "baa baa black sheep have you any wool? Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full. One for the master, one for the dame, one for the little boy who has holes in his socks".

It's going to bug me until I know the proper rhyme. Please... someone out there must be able to help!!!

lol - I love the line about the socks! Classic. I have absolutely no idea what on earth your ds is going on about - it is bugging me too now. Hope someone helps soon, there is a rhyme somewhere about half past three and coming to tea but can?t remember there being any helicopters. hee hee, that?s so funny, still chuckling about the socks...

The helicopter may well be the subbed bit - he'd just got a new Harold Helicopter toy at the time Then again, the rhythm of the rhyme worked when he was saying it - so it's hard to tell if the toy reminded him of the rhyme, or it just lead to inspiration of the modification of the rhyme!!

Yes, the socks line always makes me giggle too Don't know if heard the variation from somewhere else or whether he made it up spontaneously! He's started making up his own "jokes" too, so it's really hard to tell.

I am glad its not just my dd who comes home from nursery with a line or an action to which we then have to work out the songs to go with them. She gets very cross if we get it wrong and quite often nursery have made up a new version...

My dd is the same; for ages she would look up to me at bedtime and say, quite clearly, "mouse!". I didn't have a clue what she meant, but eventually she saw someone reciting "Little Mousey Brown" on a kids video and yelled "Mouse Mouse Mouse" until I got the point. It turned out that they have a nursery rhyme tape at nursery which they play at nap time!

They do all the actions and then say night night.

Could this be what he is trying to sing? It's an extra verse we used to sing with the children at nursery

Not sure about the helicopter one, I can remeber bits of one but not all of it

i think see the bunnies fast asleep etc etc... then hop little bunny hop hop hop... (where toddler then jumps up and starts 'hopping' like mad!

ta! my dd keeps asking me to join in and this is one that i'm not too sure about!
