Just moved house and DS won't stop screaming.

We moved over the weekend and nearly 6 month old DS has become extremely clingy and whingey. I can barely lead his sight for a minute before he starts screaming and the couple of times I've taken him for walks he's screamed for a good half hour before crying himself to sleep. It's doing my head in - I can't get anything done around the house and don't even want to leave the flat because of his behaviour. Has anyone else experienced anything like it? I'm hoping he calms down as he gets used to the new place but am utterly shattered atm.

Poor little thing , if it's connected to the move perhaps ours the smell of the house that's confusing him?

Have you ruled out ear infection/teeth/any other physical issue?

I don't think it's a physical issue as he calms down as soon as I pick him up. But he weighs about 9kg now so he's a bit too heavy for me to carry around all the time and he doesn't like slings either. He's really doing my head in and I've been in tears yesterday and today too.

My ds went through a clingy stage around 6 months (no house move though).

He would whinge sat on the floor even if I was right near him! He also cried if I left the room and in the buggy that didn't face me (does yours?)

Not much advice - ds was better if he could see me and I was chatting to him. Lots of cuddles and used a buggy which faced me.

It will take time for him to adjust to a new place as well but honestly it will pass!

My ds went through a similar clingy phase when we moved house at the same age, but dd also did get very clingy at 6 months with no move so think it is common at this age, she has settled down a lot a month later. Will probably be due for more in a couple of months!

There is a lot going on for them developmentally at this age - new physical abilities, sitting up, babbling, teeth, also realising their mother is a separate person who can leave them and they have no control over it. So they cry for you for reassurance you will come when they need them. I always find the clingy phases have passed more quickly when you just ride it out and give them what they need, hard as it is in the short term.

When they need you, that should say!
