OPOL with split parents

Has anyone had any experience using OPOL where the parents don't live together but have shared custody? So when dc stays with mum they use one language and when they stay with dad their second language. Ds is not quite 2 and only just starting to speak in both languages but we may be splitting up and I still want ds to learn his second language (dad's language).

I have no experience, but I would think that it would be far easier and less confusing that way. No switching to and from languages depending on who you're talking to in the same room.
