how much weight should my 2year old be gaining???

So I have never been concerned about DS in terms of growth. When he was a baby he dropped down a centile line but it was explained by a sudden and fairly traumatic end to breastfeeding and he then continued to gain weight along that centile line.

He is only a very small little thing, he is 2 and a half but still wears 12-18 month clothes. However I am only 5'3" and DP is 5'10" and I am in particular generally very slight so would expect him to be pretty small.

However he goes to nursery 5 days a week and his key worker has mentioned to me that she is slightly concerned about his growth or lack thereof recently. At his 2 year check he was 11.97kg and I have weighed him at home (I know likely to be less accurate) and he is now 6 months later only 12kg. He is an incredibly good eater and I have no concerns with regards to his diet.

I am more wondering if this kind of growth is normal? And if it isn't any ideas what might be causing it? I have tried to contact my health visitor but tbh would have about as much luck relying on telepathy as I have relying on them answering their phone/returning a message!

Sorry its a bit long but thanks for any help!

I wouldn't be overly concerned he's growing. I find mine go through stages, they put on a bit of weight then grow upwards a bit. If you are concerned see your gp

I seem to remember that they don't gain a lot of weight at all between 2 and 3 but tbh I stopped weighing mine by that age so I can't really remember! Speak to your hv and see what they think.

Sorry, reread it and see that you're trying to speak to the hv.

If the weights are accurate, then no that's not normal weight gain. It would take him from just under 50th centile at 2 to between 9th and 25th at 2 and a half on the centile charts.

Charts aren't everything and kids vary, but personally I'd want to know if he was growing normally height wise too. If his key worker has noticed a lack of growth, I'd take that seriously.

Perhaps make an appointment with your gp to discuss. They can make sure the HV gets in touch and keeps a closer eye on his growth.
