Hi

My little girl is 2 1/2 and I 've been potty training her for about 4 months. Generally she is great at weeing on loo, but won't poo on the loo at all!!! She either waits until she has her night nappy on, or has an accident on the floor!!! I have to say it is beginning to become quite stressful although I do try to keep my cool. I am fed up of cleaning up poo! Has anyone got any suggestions. I have tried to put a nappy in the potty but it doesn't help. She sometime does a poo on the potty but it is generally when she is very desperate and then she never seems to let it all out. This can't be good for her!!!

Any help gratefully received

Thanks

Hi weebers, my DS was very similar. He would either wait until he had his night nappy on, or do it in his pants. I thought that rewards were the best way to go, so I told him that if he did a big poo in the potty he could have a special present. He immediately went and sat on the potty, but was a little upset when he couldn't do a poo straight away. When he did go, we made loads of fuss of him, lots of praise and he got a special present (freebie toy from cereal packet!!). After that, I would take some of his toy cars out of his box and hide them. When he was going on the potty most of the time(during the day), we said he could have a sticker instead. He used a potty for a while for poos instead of the toilet. He does still sometimes do a poo in his night nappy, but I'm now putting it on just as I take him to bed, so he doesn't get the opportunity to sit in it for a while!

I've tried bribery and corruption but she just isn't interested!!! I am worried that psychi=ollogically she just can't do it. I have tried chocolate, toys, money as bribes but still no joy!!!!! I make a huge fuss over her whne she has had a poo in the loo, and she get excited and says wheres my treat!!! Not sure what else to try!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you thought about putting her back in nappies (or pull-ups so that she can continue to use the loo for wees) for a couple of months, without making any deal of it at all, and then trying again? I know it's a bit galling if you've been potty training for 4 months but it might give you both a break from the stress and then you can start again and it's amazing what a couple of months can do.

I started potty training DD2 about 3-4 months ago (when she was 2.5 years) and it started fantastically and then all went horribly wrong, pees and poos everywhere! After 4/5 days of this it occurred to me that no matter how keen she was to wear 'grown up pants', it just wasn't working out. I put her in pull-ups the next day which was a huge relief for me - and she didn't even comment on it. Two months later and I started again and this time we pretty much had it cracked in 5 days.
