4 month old with diarrhea

My DS is 4 months old, and I just want to check if I need to do anything or if this is ok...

Yesterday he pooed 6 times which is v unusual for him (usually once a day) and then this morning he did the most explosive poo ever, and then has had several v runny poos today. He is currently basically pissing out of his bottom.

He hasn't got a temperature and isn't massively distressed, just straining lots (and v tired as he should be asleep ages ago).

Do I just make sure he is hydrated and as long as it clears up soon it's ok, or should I be more concerned as he is so young?

Thanks

Just feed lots to keep hydrated, but keep an eye out for signs of www.babycentre.co.uk/a557531/dehydrationdehydration and call 111 if concerned.

Good guide here for breastfed baby.

Also worth having dioralyte rehydration solution on hand. When you go to A&E for dehydration they do the oral rehydration challenge which is 5mlsolution every 5 minutes for half an hour. You have to syringe it into their cheek as it is foul tasting (mine preferred plain not blackcurrant), but it does the job.

Are you BF? if so, let him feed as much as he wants.

Any chance he's teething? lots of babies' digestion goes nuts when cutting teeth.

Thanks. Yes, he's mainly bf, with one bottle of formula before bed. He could be teething, already had one v sharp one appear last week... Another might be on it's way.

My daughter had this about 10 days ago. She is 16 weeks. She usually goes once a day but started having explosive farts/poo and they were quite mucusy. Again like your littlun,no temperature and generally well. She now seems to have got through it and is doing about 2 a day. I'm sure it's down to teething. She is drooling like crazy.
Hope this helps.
