Nursery / Pre School 'uniform'

I could very well be over thinking this!

DTs start preschool in September - I was thinking of buying a 'uniform' of sorts, a couple of pairs of jeans or a skirt with some tops that are specifically for pre-school. I don't want their 'nice' clothes to get ruined with paint etc.

Does anyone do this, what did your kids wear?

I haven't done it deliberately, but I tend not to put DD in anything too nice when she goes to the CM. If you were doing it I wouldn't go to boring or uniform-y, but it does make sense to have a pile of clothes perhaps from a cheaper than usual shop that you don't mind when they get stained.

I did this for my dd when she attended preschool. bought 3 pairs of dark blue leggings and pale pink polo shirts. She always looked smart and didn't mess up her normal clothes

Our pre-school has an official t-shirt and sweat shirt - not compulsory, but useful to help them get the idea, as the primary (across the playground) has a uniform. So yes, if they are likely to go on to a school with a uniform, but if not, I'd not spend more money and just send her in older clothes.

DS had to wear a uniform. At first I was a bit but he would come home filthy and I was so glad as sometimes the paint didn't come out of his polo shirt. I think it also helped him when he started school because he was used to the uniform.

Some of the school nurseries in our area expect the children to wear the school uniform. As the children don't automatically get a reception place I think that's wrong. It's one of the things that is sometimes brought up at appeals.

I have things that go to nursery and things that don't, just because this limits the number of name-tapes needed. The things are of the same nature, though. She wears a pretty standard trouser/t-shirt/jumper combo most of the time.

Tons of supermarket leggings and tshirts

Another vote for leggings and t-shirts.

The leggings are easy to pull down when they need to use the toilet. A t-shirt means not having to keep rolling up sleeves to do painting or hand-washing.

Certainly dress in clothes that it does not matter if they get dirty, paint on. If buying things, buy cheap. Having specific clothes for nursery can be useful, as can teach them to dress themselves.
Make sure that clothing is easy for them to remove to go to toilet.

I never understand how people can have children who don't trash their clothes! DS's entire wardrobe excluding perhaps one best jumper is fair game for being trashed, and he spends much time at home sitting on soil digging so gets filthy. You could perhaps buy a few preschool things which will also save labelling everything although if DS didn't have a uniform I wouldn't have bothered.

Dark coloured leggings or jeans for my dd and tops she is growing out of a bit so I don't mind when they need to be thrown out!

My kids have pre-school clothes . Very cheap tesco bottoms and the uniform top. Saves their good clothes getting ruined x

Both mine trash all clothes but school nursery was a whole level of wrecking them beyond previous nursery etc. white board marker, glue, red paint, mud etc ALWAYs soak them in cold water first before wash. School uniform is cheap as chips so I was happy that it was one pound polo shirts that got ruined daily
