Does sleepwalking matter?

Ds (13yo) has always talked in his sleep but it's usually gibberish. Last night i had a full blown conversation with him, standing on the landing. it took me a few minutes to realise the reason he wasn't making complete sense was that he was fast asleep.

So, is there a reason for him suddenly sleepwalking, something i need to worry/take action about?

Can/do people hurt themselves sleepwalking? What would have happened if he'd got to the stairs, for example?

Not really got any experience myself but apparently my mum's brother used to sleepwalk as a kid - he'd go downstairs and make jam sandwiches of all things!

He did it for a number of years and never came to any harm. Grew out of it in his late teens.

Not sure there's much you can do as I presume people are not aware they are sleepwalking? Perhaps just make sure there are no obvious trip hazards and your doors are locked.

Just looked and NHS choices has some good info and advice so might be worth a look?
