Sorry to sound dense, but what are the signs?

My ds is 2.6 and has just started telling me when he has pooed (not every time but 50% of the time, other times he just denies it) and the other day even sat on the potty and pooed (had his nappy on at the time, but hell I was impressed). I have asked him if he would like to wear pants etc etc and use the potty/toilet like his uncle/Grandad/Dad etc. but he says no! Sooo, the question is, are there any other signs I should be looking out for? I have taken on board what you have all said about pull ups and will not be using those, just endless cheap pants etc. I work part time and have saved some leave so that I can spend 9 days training him. Just wondered if now is the time, or should I be waiting for other "signs"?
Thanks

IIRC with DS1 I just started because he was at the age and he was going to pre school. However, with hindsight, I realise he ws not ready at all and in fact we stoped for a few weeks and started again by which time he was fine (about 10 days before his 3rd birthday.
With DS2 he took his nappy off one day (can't remember why!) and DS1 suggested he did a wee on the potty and he did! He never wore a nappy in the day again after that so he was obviously ready (about 2.9)
So my advice for what it's worth, would be to wait as long as posisble and then it will be quicker as you're not having to push them into anything.
