formula feeding when out and about

What do you ladies do when out and about we were fine using ready made cartons but have changed dd to comfort milk and they don't do the cartons. If you are out say all day what would you do we have insulated bottle bags so that would do the first feed but then they wouldnt stay hot enough for later feeds dd takes milk at room temp so its not how warm the milk will be but more about if the water will be hot enough to add the powder.

what do you mean by "comfort milk?" If you mean the follow on stuff I was always able to get individual cartons. Otherwise, how about keeping a thermos of hot water and making it up when needed - stand it in a jug of cold water to cool it down if necessary. I was never terribly worried about the whole thing about exact temps needed to ensure sterility etc, made up bottles in advance and so on. OR take fridge cold ones in a cool bag and warm them up with a jug of hot water (though be aware that not all cafes/ restaurants/ pubs will do this on entirely spurious H&S grounds).

I add the milk powder at home to hot water. Store in bag. Feed when needed.

I am watching this as we have the same situation with our twins. At home we use the perfect prep machine and if out for a few hours I take one made up feed with me.

FYI- comfort milk is a thicker formula that helps with colic and other things and is good for premies who don't have mature digestive systems. You can't get it ready made unfortunately.

Hot water in flask, powder in milk divider things pre measured out. Empty bottles. Make as needed

I put boiling water into a flask and boiling water into a bottle. When she needs fed I add the scoops to 2oz of the flask boiling water shake to dissolve then top up with the boiling water from the bottle which would now be cool. Comes out perfect. You could use more flask water if your baby likes it warm. My DD doesn't care as long as she is being fed lol

We used comfort milk and did as follows:

-Fill a flask with water slightly hotter than 70 degrees
-bottles with say 4oz cooled boiled water in.
-pre measured powder
-other empty sterilised container

We followed the guidelines at first:

1. Tip cooled water from bottle into sterilised container
2. Measure out (say) 2oz of water from the flask into the bottle
3. Mix pre-measured formula with hot water
4. Tip cooled boiled water back into bottle
5. Serve

Then we got lazy as baby got older:

1. Top up cooled water in bottle with hot water from flask
2. Mix in pre-measured powder
3. Serve

Which one you choose is up to you. It sounds a faff, but you get used to it and it was actually a LOT easier than trying to heat up pre-mixed bottles when out and about. Besides, we found that comfort formula didn't last as well as the normal stuff once mixed.

Thank you everyone with a flask how long will it stay hot? Can you tell Im a paranoid first timer scater we use perfect prep too so not used to thinking about it push a button and its done!

It'll lose a bit of heat but should stay hot for two-four hours depending on how good a flask you buy (ours was shit )

I was wondering if the tommee tippee one was any good just thought if we went out for a full day we would need it to stay hot for hours

Our flask stays hot 12 hrs or cold 24 hrs. Think it's 'life adventure' brand

We carry a flask with boiled water in so we can make up bottles as and when needed.

Thats what Im going to do Buttercup im not comfortable making them up in advance or adding powder to room temp water anyway the comfort milk separates at the best of times so think it definately needs hot water.

Oh and the ' life adventure' flasks come on x3 sizes so can buy say a smaller one for morning out and large for day out
