Travelling to America

I've not been on holiday for years and I've decided I'd like to go on one, probably to America. I'm thinking in order to sort out logistics, money etc I need to go next year but I'm trying to figure out possibilities and likely costs now.

I use a wheelchair full time (powerchair for distance, manual in the house). It wouldn't be the first time I've travelled alone but would be my first time abroad alone.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks or recommendations for where to stay that is good at giving the access it's promised? I'd need a level access shower with a seat and a room/bathroom I could get my chair round and certainly in the UK sometimes that gets promised but doesn't materialise..

Maybe New York? That's the dream anyway but if somewhere else has a substantially shorter flight I might go there.
