Alternative to stokke trip trap?

DD (12 weeks) is happy sitting in her bouncy chair while we (me, DH, DS) eat at the table but I feel like we're putting her on the floor!

A stokke trip trap plus newborn set looks great but is £££, especially as a) she will be able to sit in a regular high chair in a couple of months and b) we won't be having any more children to use it!

So are there cheaper alternatives for a small baby to sit at table height?

Babydan do a knockoff remarkably similar chair. Or phil and teds "lobster" actually clips onto table. Depending on the table height, the ikea antilop with inflatable back cushion might work too.

The M&P Loop highchair reclines to lying down position for tiny babies, and is height adjustable from coffee table to breakfast bar height. But it is a truly awful highchair in all other respects.

They are brilliant though, I love ours. And they'll last all childhood so a real investment, and they take up no more space than a normal chair.

But at 12 weeks I suggest you buy the baby set, and try to get the newborn set off ebay or similar.

I also love ours, each child had one which I'm keeping for them & their children. Ds who us nearly 8 still uses his. No messing about with booster seats or cushions & they learn to sit properly with you at the table. They are ££ & you never need anything else.

We just sit the baby on the table in a bumbo.

I do like the trip trap style, but cannot see how the stokke one is worth £100 more than other chairs of the same style.

Ikea £12 highchair plus insert. Remove insert when old enough.

it is the best highchair ever invented.

We got ours for £40 on eBay. Try preloved, OP.

Babydan chair! Fantastic. Does everything the triptrapp does. Looks nicer than a plastic one and (for space squeezed families like us) fits under the table like a normal chair.

fledermaus · 18/07/2014 08:37

I prefer the look of the Hauck and Obaby versions to the Babydan one. Although those as all 6 months+ chairs and the OP wants something for a 3 month old.

Unfortunately it seems Ikea are discontinuing their basic highchair.

I recently tried to order it online and it wouldn't let me due to being discontinued shortly. All colour options.

Most stores within driving reach from us were out of stock too.

We've got the hauck - have had it 7 months now and am really pleased with it, it's sturdy and so easy to clean, hoping it'll do us a couple of years since it transforms into a toddler seat. It also looks nice!

What age can you use a bumbo from? I'm sure we've got one in the loft....

We've also got the antilop high chair but no insert, will investigate that too I would still like to buy a trip trap but DH yet to be convinced

Thanks for the suggestions Smile

My 5 yo uses her Tripp trapp everyday, I would definitely invest if you can afford it.
what else has a 7 year warranty too? I will be buying dc3 one so they all have one, it is so great that they get to sit at the right height for them at the table, baking, crafting etc is much easier.

BikeRunSki · 18/07/2014 09:29

Ikea are discontinuing the Antilop????!!!! Don't they read MN!!!! Don't they realise it is the best designed anything, ever????!!!!

I have 2 I don't use anymore. Cash in the attic!

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 18/07/2014 09:32

Thats like discontinuing water!! It is an integral item in parenthood.

I choose cafes and restaurants based on whether they use the Antillop.
