it seems to me theres a lot of us about so lets have a roll call,
ages
sexes
do you manage to work and how much?
what do you do for childcare?
what do you love best and whats the worst about lots of children?
and what is it about lots of children that makes you think just one more...
me first
me 36 dh 37
ds 9
ds 7
dd 5
dd 9 months
I work 2 days and 1 night and have 2 days nursery and 1 day afterschool care. also fortunate that I can work term time only
I love the relationship the baby has with the older three, its a joy to see how she reacts differently to them all. the worst bit is lots of different people for them to argue with

I don't qualify to be on this thread but just wanted to say - wow! I am wondering whether or not we should have another which would make 3! I am in awe, how do you manage?

Run my own music business and work part time, well I have two afternoons off (12-3pm) Am a taxi for all the kids and they do loads of stuff! Need a secretary for the business and a Mary Poppins for me.

(Mind you, DS1 eye's lit up when I mentioned an au-pair!

Dd2 6 weeks

I am a registered childminder and will have to start work again in January. But will only take part time or after schoolers on hopefully until dd1 is at school.

Def won't have any more, but part of me will always yearn for just 1 more, but you have to stop somewhere don't you?

Love seeing my 2 big lads all gooey eyed at their 2 little sisters

Hate that my 2 boys don't get on at all Hope they will get on when they are both a bit older. The constant bickering and nastiness gets me down.

wanderingstar · 12/09/2006 14:37

Dh and I are both 42 and we have:
ds1 just 13
ds2 11
dd nearly 8
ds3 nearly 3
Like: seeing the big 3 really loving ds3, and vice versa. When they get on, there's nothing to beat it ! When they don't, the amount of bickering has to be heard to be believed !

Once upon a time I had a professional career, but I've been a ft sahm mother for 12 years. Ds3 has just started nursery for 3h per day. I'm trying to build up a little internet book business. Pays just a little more than peanuts atm - will never be megabucks, but there's definitely room for expansion over the next year or 2 as ds3 will obviously increase his time at school.

work form home running own business, sometimes busy, mostly could take on more work (memo to self - get off mumsnet and get on with building website )
used to have v.g (imo) career, but surrended when no3 was 1yo.
I love it when all play nicely (most of the time), i dislike most them arguing in the car. i do think it's so nice for them having each other for always on tap friends, and support, but we would not be quite so tight for cash if we'd curbed the family earlier

Will be able to join this thread next March!!

LadyTophamHatt · 13/09/2006 18:31

Can I join in? maybe a Honorary member

Only have 3 ATM but I'm 23 weeks with No4.

I'm a 33, a SAHM with 3 Ds's 7, 5, 3(next week) yrs old.
DH is 32.

New Ds4 is due in january.

i'm not in the least bit worried about having 4, about the extra work, the chaos...anything, I just have this strange idea that it'll be easy and no trouble at all.

I'm mad, aren't I??

wanderingstar · 13/09/2006 18:49

Ha ha ha.

LadyTophamHatt · 13/09/2006 18:51

is that a good "Ha ha ha" or a bad "Ha ha ha"?

wanderingstar · 13/09/2006 19:13

Mostly good...but I thought "how hard can it be going from 3 to 4?", having found 1-2 and 2-3 OK.
I found it tougher than I thought tbh. BUT it's great now that ds3 is a toddler and I wouldn't change it for the world. I'm sorry if I came across as rather cynical; I wish you all the best ! It will be lovely.

Btw I'm definitely stopping now. No number 5 in this house !

Use childminder when i have ourt appointments re DS's residency.I will know in nov if they will be coming home.

I love the way the boys treat the girls. So kind, helpful and loving.
Don't like the DS's fighting and arguing.

tortoisesdonotwearshoes · 13/09/2006 19:58

I'm a SAHM, briefly returned to teaching in the year between 3 and 4. Love my boys but hard work! Lot's of bickering at the moment. DS4 has sn (so far undiagnosed). The older 3 adore him and he is starting to interact with them now. Do love being a mum, especially to all boys.

Sanity · 13/09/2006 20:27

Hi...me 36, dh 42
dd1 7
dd2 5
ds1 15months
ds2 15months

Love it love it love it...I am a stay at home domestic goddess!! you have to big it up! I love being a mum, still want more, dh not so sure as I kick out too many eggs every month and am high risk multiples!!! (no other twins in either family at all!) I was once a career girl, but that was a few years ago now...plan on starting my own business in interior design and shabby chic furniture...also deal in a little bit of art!!! If I didn't do something I would go a little more mad than I already am...think its fab that there are so many more like me out there!

Tickle · 13/09/2006 21:33

Hello busy ladies - lovely idea for a thread

Me 35
DH 42

dd1 7
ds1 nearly 6
dd2 2.5
ds2 8mths

(I put the boy/girl rhythm down to a talented DH lol )

oh, and:
1 lurcher
1 whippet
4 rabbits

We live on a small island in Denmark (DH is danish) - last 2 children have been born here. Whole family thinks we're mad to have our 4th this yr, as we have started a new business - a nature centre & cafe. So I bake all the cakes (used to have a professional officy career long ago...)

Love having the 4 of them, as my family is tiny. But miss a bit of peace and time to myself. And overdid it this summer, working 7 days a week in the cafe with a baby on my back But tourist season is over now, so I get to enjoy ds2 til he goes to a childminder when he's one.

And our house is a pigsty! Could be au pair time next year...

suedonim · 13/09/2006 21:39

Have tried to post a reply before - maybe this will be third time lucky!

I'm 50+, dh even older.
Ds1 31yrs
Ds2 27yrs
Dd1 19yrs
Dd2 10yrs

I'm a sahm, not even doing the housework atm as we live in W Africa and someone does it for us. Best thing about having four - the interactions between them all. The worst things - the laundry and the D&V bugs they used to pass from one to the other and then onto me.

Miaou · 13/09/2006 21:44

I don't qualify for this thread - I aspire to four - but it makes very interesting reading!!

NotAnOtter · 13/09/2006 21:45

Thankyou for this!

Me 38
dp 38

DS1 14
DD 11 (almost 12)
DS2 9 (almost 10)
DS3 3.5
DS4 7 months

I love it so so much - it has got better and better for me I am soo pleased the way things have worked out
I am a SAHM but we run our own business so I kind of do a bit!

NotAnOtter · 13/09/2006 21:48

Sorry I forgot,

Best thing about having 5 is the age gaps and how much the bigs love the babies. I also feel the whole atmosphere is more 'loved-up' ( feel free to vom!) as the bigs see me and dp being all gooey eyed with the babies.

worst thing needs no thinking about.... COOKING!!!!
