French - accents on the keyboard?

How do you put the accents inwhen writing french on teh computer? My keyboard is german so some letters are in different places butI still can't figure out how to do the accents, can any one help? When I write to my friends in France I just leave them out!

If your keyboard doesn't do the Ctrl + options given by Kelly, you can also find them in Word on Insert - Symbols. Not sure what you do if writing an e-mail.

Don't forget to make sure the number lock is on when doing the alt + codes ....

Also, if you want to know any other accent codes, when you open up the insert symbol box, it gives the shortcut code at the bottom of the box in the middle.
