Babbling

Have got myself sooo worked up. DD is 7 months now and not babbling so not making dadada, bababa, etc noises. I keep reading she should be doing this by now. She will happily make screeching noises all day!

Feel like I have caused this by not talking to her enough as I am not a natural mother and find it hard to to talk to her and play silly games.

Am I overreacting here or should I be worried. When should she be doing this by and what more should I do to help her.

Sooo stressed by all this at the moment.

DS was virtually silent at that age and I was worried too...he's now ten months and in the last week has started and now barely shuts up! I wouldn't worry just yet Smile

My MIL always compares our DD with her son. Our DD is a big babbler but my DH hardly made a sound. He was a very late talker, however went straight to talking in sentences. He is a very bright and articulate person... He just does everything in his own time!! All babies are different but talk to your HV if you are really worried and she will hopefully put your mind at rest :)

Meant to say too, I'm not a natural either, and struggle with chatting to him. Find it easier now that he has started to respond a bit though.

Set your mind at rest by booking a hearing test

Don't worry, as with anything, all babies pick up things at their own pace. I just met a mum whose baby girl talked at one year. A friend's son doesn't talk yet at three (understands and signs, just chooses not to speak) even though she is very talkative around him.

Also fwiw my own seven month old started babbling very suddenly - for ages, he would only squeal, then say goo or ehee, then all of a sudden one afternoon it was dadddada.

My son is now nearly nine months, and at seven months wasn't doing much babbling at all. He'd spent all his effort learning to crawl, and had made few new noises for weeks.

He's currently next to me babbling away - it started about eight months for him and it came along pretty quickly. He had vowel sounds all along, but started with the odd consonant sound and is now stringing them together - just over the course of about three/four weeks.

Shrieking and shouting is ok, so is raspberry blowing - it's all part of the motor skill learning for making more complex sounds.

Ds is 8 months and still not babbling! Hearing is fine. A friend is a speech therapist, and she said not to worry, that babies tend to prioritise movement or speech, (ds is definitely a mover) and speech will come eventually. She said to read and talk to him. I also find the talking difficult, have to keep reminding myself to do it.
