Why am I suddenly so fat?

I have always been slim and didn't put on much weight while pregnant. Then I breastfed DD and so remained slim, and still bf her once a day though she's 20 months old. I eat sensibly and, though I don't do much formal exercise I always am out and about in parks etc. with DD. and I cycle.

Suddenly my waist area is really thick and heavy, and I look bigger, and some of my clothes don't fit. What is this? Has anyone else had a metabolism change when baby is coming up to 2? I hardly eat any snacks/junk.

Is something wrong with me?!

I recognise this is ridiculous but am genuinely looking for suggestions!

Pregnant?!

POAS?

SloanePeterson · 02/07/2014 14:31

In all seriousness though, I put on weight once bfing tailed off. And I didn't eat huge amounts to begin with,

I second the pregnancy suggestion. POAS!

What's a POAS?

A lot of women find that they hold onto some fat until they've completely finished BF-ing. After stopping completely I found I got quite skinny on both occasions as my body realised it didn't need to keep any reserves in store any more! Of course, it helps if you also cut back a bit on your food intake, since your DC isn't taking as many calories from you any more.

AdamantEve · 02/07/2014 14:34

I have put on half a stone since I stopped BFing three months ago. My diet/activity level hasn't changed. I did actually POAS as I couldn't believe I'd gain that weight for no real reason...but apparently I have!

rosepetalsoup · 02/07/2014 14:36

Bugger ok, it could be the BFing. Tbh I can't remember exactly how much I was eating before, maybe it was less.

I can't imagine I could bulk up through pregnancy in the last two weeks since my period - even if I was pregnant?

If there's any chance you could be pregnant, then do do a test. It's not necessarily weight gain, in the very early weeks with mine I was incredibly bloated, I have no idea why. Looked a good 5 months pg for a few weeks at the beginning of each.

jan2014 · 02/07/2014 15:38

stress of parenting a toddler = weight around midsection!

rosepetalsoup · 02/07/2014 15:45

Ok, I will do a test, but not until period doesn't show up surely!

jan2014 - how is that fair!!!!

I'd still POAS. I bled every 4 weeks when I was pregnant with DS1.

flipflopsonfifthavenue · 02/07/2014 20:35

I ballooned almost over night when I have up bfing at 18mo. It literally came from nowhere.

Well, it came from the cake, but you know what I mean...

whereisshe · 02/07/2014 21:11

Lack of sleep makes you put on weight. So does dehydration. So does stress, as a pp said. So does turning ~30, how old are you?

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 02/07/2014 21:13

Definetly POAS. Even just to rule it out.
