7 year old hormone surge?

Does something happen to girls at age 7? DD1 (7.5) is a complete nightmare at the moment; not listening, answering back, rude, stroppy - you name it, she's it!

It's awful because she has always been a happy go lucky, polite, biddable child.

I want my lovely sunny little girl back

Is there anything we can do or do we have to just ride it out?

Hi! I haven't been on this site for a number of years but am going through such a bad patch so I thought I'd seek the wise words of mumsnet....so just bizarre that I came across this post and it says pretty much what I was going to say!! No Advice I'm afraid, but you're not alone....x

ohno, good to hear I'm not alone although not so good for you!

I have done a bit of digging and it does seem common but not much info on how best to deal with it - would be great to hear from those who have come out of the other end....or maybe they were beaten by it an never did and hence no answers

Funny I was just searching for a similar thread. My dd has turned into an answering back know-it-all, she drives us mad!

It's exhausting, without me realising it sometimes she draws me into ridiculous to and fro discussions. I say "Do as you're told" a million times a day but I know from my own childhood it just washes over them. I've tried some "talks" about behaviour but they seem to work for about a day then we're back to battling.

Anyway sorry I don't have an answer either, but I thought it might help to know you're not on your own.

Hopefully it's part of growing up, but I'm hoping someone will post a miracle strategy.

I'm sure the cockiness might do them well in the long run.

I believe my DD had a hormone surge at 7, she became unbearable to live with. Similar to how you describe! You are not alone.

Girls are going through puberty earlier now, so the 11,12,13 year olds of yester years are now 7-10 year olds.

My DD is going through puberty, started this time last year with a light period (nothing since). Everything else is developing and by god her mood swings are just gobsmacking, I try not to bite and I try to remain calm but it's so hard.

Talking to my mum and she said that DD reminds her of me aged 13.

I like to think it'll be over and done with earlier but then I meet the parents of teen girls and they have this haunted look about them as they laugh and shower my naivety with pity

I'm a teacher and when i taught Y2, previously calm girls started to turn into raging, tearful messes! I've always thought something changed in some girls at around 7.

My own dd is also 7.5 and we're having similar issues. She cheeky beyond belief .

Thanks for the reassurances we are not alone! Dh and I sat down with her and told her that her behaviour and attitude was not acceptable. She sobbed but took it on board and was ever so helpful for 24 hrs (laid the breakfast table at 6am ) We have regressed slightly since but still better.

Well my dd is 6 and she seems similar to this. She hasn't even lost a single milk tooth yet. :-(

Same in our house hence need to get back on Mumsnet boards. Most sweet, kind little girl now seems 7 going on 13! Reassured to know we're not alone - would love to know how best to weather it though - Two issues I'm struggling with are 1) she is really really upset by some of the things she says and does after - she knows it isn't like her usual behaviour if that makes sense 2) we also have 5 year old twins who see/hear her and think they can behave in the same way. We have just had the most miserable evening with everyone shouting and crying. Want to ease us all through this in a calm manner but starting to lose the plot a bit.

Might it also be coming to the end of a long term/year at school? Plus (if in England), some concern about moving up to KS2? Hope summer hols help!

Very busy few weeks. Probably overwhelmed. Is there no reasoning with her at all?

I have a 7 year old and just as she was turning 7 ( I would say the month before) she went really stroppy and moody and angry with me! Spoke to a few people about this and apparently when girls get to around this age they can have an hormonal surge that is linked to puberty.... I put it down to this. She settled after a few months!

If you google it there's quite a few people saying the same too.
