Cloth nappies - complete novice - tell me everything I need to know!

I am due with DC2 in August. A friend of a friend has passed on loads of cloth nappies to us which I'm quite excited about but I honestly have no idea where to start.

I seem to have two or three different brands of nappies and a big bag of inserts for them.

Could anyone please start at the very beginning and talk me through the ins and outs of using this type of nappy? I'm talking even the very basics please, as well as any top tips!

we use cloth nappies and we love them. i think we probably have a different type to you though so i don't think i'm best placed to advise. i found the nappy lady invaluable, so do check that out for loads of tips and demos.

i think there is also a nappy thread on MN somewhere so you might find some more help there?
