Table manners!

Can anyone help me? I am sick to the back teeth of DD2 (5) chewing with her mouth open, and talking with her mouth full. I have to remind her more than once every time she eats. DD1 just naturally ate with her mouth closed from day one so I haven't had to teach this before. It has got to the point that I sat there and ate with my mouth open to give her an idea of what she looks like - she told me it looks disgusting and she didn't want to see - she understands that no one wants to watch her do that and she stops when asked, but then forgets in less than a minute and goes back to chewing like a cement mixer. I'm starting to snap at her about it, and its making mealtimes unpleasant. We eat as a family round the table as much as we can, and the TV is off, so no distractions. Any ideas?

I used to do an exaggerated closed mouth chew whilst pointing at my mouth, to remind my two. Persistence pays off!

Thanks, ill try that instead of just telling her, a visual cue might indeed work better!

I 2nd Shocker's idea. Because the more you 'tell' her the more she'll do it. Also check that she hasn't got a blocked nose which would make it harder for her to eat with her mouth closed.

Our GD does this and DH hates it Grin the problem there is that our ex DIL; her DM, does it too!!
