Sibling rivalry - swimming certificates

3.5 year old DD has just achieved certificate for swimming 5m unaided by float. 5.5 year old DD, also a pretty strong swimmer but more of a cautious creature, hasn't yet achieved this. Hugely competitive relationship. How do I navigate this one as is don't want eldest to lose self esteem over this.

Is there a MN thread on sibling rivalry? If there isn't, there should be. It's one of the most dominant issues I have to deal with & I feel a bit clueless Confused

"unaided by float" seems like an oxymoron to me, but that is an aside.

Just remind your eldest of some of the things she can do that her younger sister can't.

Fair enough, waffle, and thanks for your suggestion.

"Unimpeded by float"; is that better?Confused
