Seven year old dd has a girlfriend

My dd turns eight in two weeks and I recently came across a love letter she had written whilst tidying her room. I didnt read it but teased her about it thinking it was for a lad at her school that likes her. I was a little surprised to find it was actually for a girl and my dd was worried about telling me as she thought I would be upset.

I am not upset in the slightest. Sadly I lost my older brother to suicide who couldn't cope with his sexuality and I am very supportive. I reassured her it was absolutely fine and wished her luck. She was worried about my partner or her dad finding out too.

I more wondered if it's a phase or an indicator of her sexuality when she is an adult. Anyone had experience of this?

Friendships can be pretty intense at that age, and IIRC in my DDs class there were lots of little messages winging back and forth spouting undying affection to one another. Sometimes the girls wrote to boys (who stoutly ignored them in general), sometimes they wrote to girls (more satisfying if you wanted a response).

I don't think it is indicative of future sexual orientation, more that the girls tend to be on a similar page re: friendships while the boys are mostly charging about in packs being superheroes.
