sling recommendations for 5mo

I have a moby wrap which I love, super comfy and supportive but it just takes so blooming long to put on. I find I tend to end up wearing it all day and spend ages trying to show my other half and family how to tie it when they offer to carry DD

Can anyone please recommend something that is just as comfy but quicker to get on and off and that my DH will feel more manly in!! DD is 5m but still pretty small. She loves to be face out and able to kick about in the sling.

Mei Thais are good, I got a reversible one that is black on one side and coloured on the other. Dh wears it happily. I moved from my moby when ds was about 3/4 months but he's on the 98th centile, so is quite heavy and long and still fits in the mei Thai very comfortably at 10 months.

I was going to recommend the Connecta but I see someone has already beaten me to it. It can't be used for facing out, but baby can see out of the sides. They're simple to get on and off, and come in loads of different colours/patterns so you can get one that your DH wouldn't mind (though I got a swirly paisley/floral one and DH just had to lump it)

They last for ages too-DS2 is 16 months old and still goes in it, though I put him on my back these days.

A third for the connecta, easy and comfortable. Now DS is bigger (8m) I carry him on my back sometimes so he can look out more. Rose and rebellions are also ok and nice choice of designs.

Connecta or a Melkaj mei tai would be my recommendations, but even better if you can get to a sling library and see what works best for you.

Manduca for me. Lovely, supportive sling.

Connecta or Manduka comes highly recommend. Do you have a sling library near you?

The ergo baby has just brought out a new 4 position sling (parent-facing, front facing, on your hip and on your back), its £140 though... I like the manduca, they can see out quite well even if they're facing you and the clips make them quite man-friendly.

Manduca here too. I love carrying my 11 month old.

Thanks for all the recommendations I have found a sling library fairly nearby so I will go along there and try some out.

DD used to like being face in when she was younger but she squirms about like mad now and just wants to be face out. Maybe this would be better with a different carrier. She definitely needs a lot of stimulation so I don't think that is a problem but I appreciate that the hips need to be properly supported if face out. Maybe a side carry would suit her?

Tricotti. So easy to use and comfortable. I carried DS up till a year in it.

GoogleyEyes · 08/06/2014 19:47

A side carry (a pouch or ring sling works well for that) may well be what you need for now. But a sling library is the best idea, as then you can try and see what she likes and is comfy for you.

I found a back carry worked well after about a year - she could see over my shoulder and we could chat.
