Help Needed! How do I chat to my child about being safe online?

Hi everyone,

I have an 8 year old and recently she’s started wanting to go on the internet on my iPad- she says all her friends do; I can’t keep saying no and I do think the internet is an amazing thing for her to discover but I want to make sure she’s safe! How do I have a conversation with her about online safety which will keep her protected but means she is allowed to play and explore rather than just banning things as they come up. Has anyone had a similar issue- how do you do it in a positive, fun way? Any advice or tips would be amazing.

Thank you!!! xx

You set filters.you don't allow unrestricted internet, regardless of what all friends do
As a parent look at
childnet
chatdanger
thinkuknow
ceop primary

Everyone else behaviour usnt your guide, you need to be comfortable with safety.not what everyone does

And actually yes you do ban things
Things like chatrooms, face book
And her use is time limited and you restrict it
