Returning to college... help!

DS is starting school after summer, after much deliberation, i have applied to do Access to Nursing course at college now that i will have more freedom to do so.

I don't have an interview or anything yet, I applied later than you usually would but i don't forsee that being a problem as i know a few people who applied earlier than me who haven't heard anything yet either.

If I am honest, i think my personal statement and work experience let me down- I have no work experience in the care field at all and have worked in retail since leaving a completely irrelevant course when i had my son.

I have applied to be a ward volunteer at a small local hospital so that i can gain some experience and also strengthen my interview a bit if i get one.

does anyone have any advice or pointers about where else i could volunteer? i live in the arse end of no-where so it's limited in oppertunity really.... would first responder courses or something similar strenghten my case?
