How much do you pay your babysitter?

What the title says, really
We have no family nearby and now our son is a few months old would like to start leaving him with a trusted sitter. We've had a recommendation, the problem is that I don't know what the going rate is - she could tell me anything, or I could underpay her and offend!
Any guidelines would be appreciated. She's a qualified childminder crb checked early 20s

We are in London and pay our teenage babysitter £5 hour.

Just ask her what she charges and decide whether you want to pay it.

I'm near Brighton.
I've been a nanny for nearly 16 years, generally with children who have sen. I charge £5. I can't justify charging any more for sitting on my bum reading and drinking tea. If the children are awake for a significant amount of time (over 2 hours say?) Then it's £7.
Then I pay tax on it. Sob.

Thank you both. Our little one would probably be awake so £5 may be on the low side?! I've asked her anyway so will take it from there - I thought it was going to be higher!!
