Hi,

I'm looking for a good book on baby's first year as my pregnancy ones only go up to the first 6 weeks and wondered if anyone has any recommendations? Just looking for something quite practical and down to earh

I really like the book by Rachel waddilove, it's no-nonsense but child centred and practical at the same time.

The Baby Book by Dr Sears has tons of info in it. I've never seen such a detailed book. I can't count the number of times I've referred to it. It covers up to two years and is really baby-centred, too.

The Baby Book by Dr Sears
Toddlercalm/ baby calm by Sarah Ockwell smith
The womanly art of breastfeeding- not just breast feeding!

Baby led weaning Gill Rapley
Anything by Elizabeth pantley too!

I liked "What to Expect - the First Year" - same authors as What to Expect When You're Expecting and covers lots of practical stuff. Has month to month sections on what kind of milestones to expect and what may be happening that month and also has Idiot Proof guides on how to bathe baby, take temperature, give medicine etc

Your Baby Week By Week is brilliant - not too long and convoluted, not pushing any particular parenting style. It contains everything you need to know in bitesize chunks. Very user-friendly.
