What do you do with dc before or after pre-school?

Dd is on her third week of pre-school all going well but she is tired. I am struggling for things to do in the afternoons. I also have dd2 who is 14 months who needs a nap and only really sleeps well in the cot. I feel confined to the house a little bit. But also on days like today when dd has got wet going to and from pre-school I don't want to go back outside and get wet again. I guess I am looking for ideas to entertain a tired three year old.

Does she have a nap? My dd would nap on preschool days.

How about having half an hour's quite time with some books? Do a jigsaw together, painting, threading beads, play doh or baking?

My 3yo dd has been going to preschool since September. She rarely naps - even at the start she wouldn't, so needed to go to bed earlier than usual to have the energy for nursery. She needed some down-time after nursery, so I let her watch for CBeebies for a while, then we turned it off and did something else - a playdate with a good friend often worked - esp if that became a routine - 'on Mondays we see x' etc. We also do lots of baking, which she loves. Hama beads / threading work too - just keep the small beads away from the 14 mo. Reading quietly. Making butterflies - you know the kind where you paint on one half and fold it over and when you open it you have a lovely pattern on both wings? We also went to hobbycraft for inspiration - have a look at their website for craft ideas - it's fab! Nursery rhymes on youtube. Painting nails different colours. Making an 'obsticle course' for some of her toys. Science experiments - what will float in a sink of water? Stickers. More stickers. And more stickers!
