Do I need a student account?

I'm starting a 3 year full time degree in September

Can I keep my existing current account or do I need a student account?

I'm a single parent so will be in receipt of various grants and loans plus child benefit and maintenance -no idea if I will still get tax credits as they won't tell me until I actually start helpful as ever

I don't really want to get sucked into more debt through a massive overdraft so is there a need for a student account?

As a parent you should still get child tax credits them even if not working.
I haven't ever bothered with a student account, only benefit is the protected over draft which I wouldn't use anyway!

No, it's just a marketing ploy by banks to load with debt that you have to sort out when you graduate.
