Stripping my nappies - please advise

I have never stripped my nappies, and I am now on DS3 - ooops! This could be why I've never found them as good as with DS1.
I have a selection of -

  • Cotton Prefolds
  • Bumgenius
  • Totsbots (I think bamboo). I have seen loads of different ways to strip online but wanted to ask your advice before embarking, as some of the methods look very labour intensive, and also potentially damaging. As I am only doing this to improve absorbancy (the nappies don't smell), do I actually need to strip the Bumgenius covers? Can I get away with doing just the inserts? Is there a method I can use for all my nappies at once? Which would you recommend? Looking forward to some valuable MN expertise!

By far the easiest way is to wash without powder then just keep rinsing until there are no bubbles left in the machine, this will probably take at least 6 rinses. I've also heard just leaving them out in the rain for a couple of days works but not tried it myself.
