Anyone else doing full-time uni with a child/whilst pregnant? Can we get a support thread going? :)

There's a lot of people on here doing OU degrees but I haven't seen posts from people in full time uni. I've nearly finished my second year of a practical/theory mix theatre degree, managed to stick at it through my pregnancy and now my DD is three weeks old. Will be doing my third year starting in September. My OH is also a full-time undergraduate, doing a humanities subject, in his first year.

It'd be nice to have a support thread if there's any others doing the same or similar; to moan about essays and exams and dissertations and such Grin

Me :)
I took a year out as horrendous pregnancy and existing disability had me on my knees but will be returning in September to start 2nd year again.

I am 30 with 4 dc (from 6years to 2 weeks!) and doing Ancient and Medieval History at Birmingham. I love my course but I am one of very few 'old uns' and feel a little out of sync to everyone else. Still I cant wait to get back and get stuck in!

I'm starting a full time English Lit degree in September. DS will be 9 months old. Starting to get a bit nervous about what I've let myself in for now!

I'm a second year nursing student with my dsd living with us and me filling the mum role and I'm 13 weeks pregnant so will be taking a year out and deferring 3rd year as it's not the sort of course I can leave for a bit then come back into.

I'm applying for autumn, just completed my ucas form, except for my reference.
I've 4 children and trying to squeeze this in before dd1 is ready to go!

I'm starting teacher training in August when my son will be 15 months.

I'm excited about course but nervous about managing it all, especially as no family nearby.

My son is an awful sleeper too, so I won't necessarily have a lot of time in evenings. Although I'm hoping to have it fixed by then!

I've studied recently so I feel ok about my basic study skills. I'm an awful procastinator though, that will need to stop!

In my mind I'm going to approach it like a 9-5 job and try to be efficient as possible with time I have.

I have a friend doing degree just now with 8 year old son. Her advice was to plan well ahead - she said even leaving yourself two weeks to do something isn't good enough because your child might get ill and you suddenly don't have that time.

Be good to share experiences with other people.

I'm about to go into my last year of a full time Business and Management degree.
DS1 is 4, DS2 is 9 months, he was only 6 weeks when I started back in Sept this year.
Currently I am about to finish my ordinary degree (did a HND then this, next year is a top up) with one assignment left to hand in then 12 hours of exams in the first two weeks of June.

It is exhausting and sometimes hell but I love it!

I started uni in september with 8 kids and 28 weeks pregnant. Baby was born in December and i went back when she was 10 days old. Its hard but it can be done.... She says whilst stressing over the essay due this week and exams about to start.

I'm starting medicine this september and have two kids..feeling apprehensive and hoping I can juggle it all. I have wanted to be a doctor for many years and couldn't really believe I got in, especially to my first choice uni. I've done a degree and masters before and know the demands, but since that was a few years ago, I'm feeling a little out of sync with learning and have set myself from july to 'catch up' on the basics. How is everyone else preparing for uni and how do you think you'll cope with the kids?

I am in uni full time with a child too.

I am doing an MA in Social Work and and in my final year and currently out on placement until October. I have a 3 year old DD. At times it has been hard but I think being a mum has helped me become more focused at university this time around and I'm determined to finish. Wink

MoominAndMiniMoom · 02/06/2014 02:51

The thing I'm most worried about is leaving DD in September. The on-site nursery is great but I don't want to be away from her!

Closely followed by the difficulty of getting out of 'mum mode' and into 'student mode'. I found it so hard with finishing my essays just after she was born (handed them all in without any extensions Grin ), god knows how I'll be after 5 months!
