Colic, reflux or cluster feeding?!

Dd is two weeks old and for the last few evenings has been very unsettled from 7/8pm until 10/11pm, crying and rooting like crazy (despite having had usual feeds) and generally seeming very uncomfortable and rigid.

I offer her more feeds but she fusses and doesn't do much. Could this be reflux? She's very sicky, often bringing up what looks like the entire feed, has hiccups a lot, and constantly seems to think she's hungry in the evenings. She sleeps well once she's down though, only waking twice for feeds (co sleeping) and she poos very well!

Any ideas?

It could be perfectly normal. There is some info here on bfing your newborn Smile

If you need a break, have you got someone to have a go at settling her? Maybe they could change her, stick her in a sling and go for a walk? Smile

The kellymom site JJJ linked to is fab. They have a page on evening fussiness you may find helpful.

This sounds just like my 8 week old! I've decided just to try and keep feeding her. sunshine that link is really helpful, ta!

Sorry kelly not sure where that exclamation mark came from.

Hi, thanks that evening fussiness info was helpful. This evening it started early but I put her in the sling and she slept until 9 when I just fed her. So we'll see how she is now...

It definitely wasn't cluster feeding tonight tho as I offered more times and she pulled off soon after. I am wondering more about reflux though due to how much she is sick. Time will tell i guess.

How did you get on last night?

Misty9 · 06/05/2014 21:39

Hi jilted, thank you so much for asking :)

It was a rough night after a fairly settled evening. She just wouldn't settle, kept rooting like crazy but wouldn't actually latch on despite having0having it in her mouth! Same thing this evening but then she was sick down my top so seemed more comfortable after that!

Just feeding her to sleep now so fingers crossed for a decent night.

Hoping you are having a better evening tonight. My dd was very similar and its seemed to be mostly trapped wind and she often brought up a bit of milk. I found that sitting her upright after feeding and doing the 'tiger in the tree' position helped a lot. Fingers crossed for a good night!
