Car seats for older child

We have a ford mondeo. At the moment we have 3 year old in car seat and almost one year old in car seat.

We're expecting another baby at the end of the year. I don't think another child seat would fit in between the other two.

Is there a more 'streamlined' seat we can move our 3, almost 4, year old into by then?

Its very hard to get three seats across the back of an ordinary size car. We can't get three across a Vauxhall vectra even though when we tried it, one of them was just a booster cushion. You would probably need to get a very dinky infant carrier for the baby and not use an isofix base. Then look for a narrow toddler seat, one that sits a bit higher up, perhaps britax eclipse? By the end of the year your three year old will probably not need a harnessed seat, but will still need a high backed booster, a cushion on its own would not be safe enough at that age. Obviously some are slimmer than others. Take your car to kiddicare and try out a load of seats. You may end up needing to replace ones you might otherwise have kept.

The long term solution is a new car. After a year you will have two kids in toddler seats and it would be very hard to get a decent high backed booster in as well. Kids have this habit of getting bigger unfortunately!
