I am hopefully starting university in September Ihave a place but now panicking about how ill survive! I am a single mum and live in a rented property I am assuming i will get help with my rent costs from the local council but they were pretty unhelpful on the phone (we cant decide until everythings in ie when ive quit my job and im at university!!) I qualify for a few bursaries and loans which should just about feed us!I am worried about travel costs 60-80 a week on train (i dont drive and cant really uproot my dd to move closer!) .I really want to do this so im not on minimum wage barely able to afford to eat for ever! But i am so worried ill do it and end up evicted or unable to afford the very basics!

Speak to the Student Funding Office at your university, probably comes under Student Services or Student Wellbeing, they'll be able to help, and there may be funds you can apply for directly from the university on top of your student loan/bursary.

They'll probably have info about what you need to do regarding the council too. If it's just you and your DC living at home (I.e. No other adults) then you'll be exempt from council tax, for starters.

And congratulations on getting onto your course Smile
