rotavirus vaccine

I am new to this so not sure if this is the right place to ask this but here goes...has anyone elses lo had any side effects to the rotavirus vaccine? My baby is nearly 9 weeks old and had the oral vaccine on tuesday. Starting at 10am yesterday my lo had 4 or 5 diarrhoea type bowel movements, these have now settled but just wondered if this could be attributed to the vaccine or whether it was something else?

Mine had the vaccine last week but had no diarrhoea. If anything- he's just pooing less. But that could just be coincidence and not vaccine related at all.

Did you notice any other side effects? Our lo was just a little bit unsettled the night she had her vaccines...no temperature or anything so maybe the diarrhoea isn't related at all

He had the injections at the same time as the rotavirus so I have no way if knowing which vaccine caused which side effect- but all we had was a 4 hour nap straight after the vaccines, then half an hour of really screaming pain, and that was it really. He's sleeping the same since them. As I say, he's pooing less often, but I think that might have been starting just before the vaccinations anyway.

Has the diarrhoea settled down yet?

Yes it does seem to have settled but she does not seem to have been eating as much the last couple of days. ..same amount of wet nappies though so something must be going in!

My little one had a bit of diarrhoea after the first one for the following 24 hrs or so. Was ok, that is a listed side effect but if it persists then you can always get gp advice or call nhs direct or 111 whatever it is :)

It is a live (active) vaccine so loose stools are normal for many babies for a while after the vaccine.

Quodlibet · 26/04/2014 16:54

Mine had the same as luckiestgirl. She did a poo the next day that looked like a gigantic bogey, which I guessed must have been the vaccine.
Maybe I'm being dim but I can't see how you can discern 'loose stools' in a baby - all their poo looks more or less like diarrhoea doesn't it?!

mrsagarlick · 26/04/2014 19:54

I am going on the fact that my lo does not go every day and she went about four times in the space of twelve hours and it was definitely "looser" than normal with a bit of mucous in it (TMI I know!)... does seem to have settled now though

we all got d&v! I can only blame the rota Grin.

mrsagarlick · 27/04/2014 03:55

Well I guess it is a live vaccine! Do they have it again at 12 weeks?
