Do I need a routine yet?

My 8 week old DD is BF on demand. We also only have a very loose bed time routine ( everyone in bed by 10.30, DD wakes 2 or 3 times for feed, up at 7.) she naps during the day but not at set times. After DH went to work today, DD and I went back to bed and she is currently sleeping while I read a book! All lovely, but am I storing up trouble?

No.

Not IMO, seems normal to me. If you are all happy, there's no problem. Sounds to me like you do have a routine in that you have a general bed time and getting up time. Bf on demand is the way to go.

Enjoy it - you can only do it with your first DC, after that you're tied into a routine with your older ones and the baby just has to fit in!

Thanks! Just worried that it's too good to be true I suppose!

The most we did for a routine was to be loud and noisy during the day (or at least not whisper and sneak around), and then quiet, lights off, with no stimulation when she woke up at night. She sleeps through the night pretty well at 3 weeks (waking only to eat) and is active and fussy during the day. I don't know if this works or not, I think we just got lucky with ours who set her own bedtime and feeding schedule. But it's worth a try.

No, we didn't have a routine until about 4 months and even then it was loose. We have a proper one now at 9 months. At 8 weeks you just need to get through however you can, I found!

No-if I got through the day without a panic attack at that stage I was doing well. Ds fell into own routine at 4 months

This is v similar to my vague routine with 12 week old DD. I am just waiting for a routine to emerge. If it doesn't, maybe I'll do something around 4 - 5 months. At the moment we are having a lovely chilled out time. Enjoy your little one.
