Moving to a Big Bed

My DD is 2.5 and we have a new baby due in the summer. She is still in her cot bed, but we are hoping to move her into a new room and bed before the baby comes. I know we will have time to sort it out once the baby is here as he/she will be in our room for a while, but I'd quite like it done before, to minimize disruption and feelings of being "pushed out".

The room we are moving her into already has a double bed in it. Do you think it will be ok to put her in this? I didn't think anything of it, but my DH was keen to get rid of the double and use her current cot bed. I think it seems a shame to get rid of a perfectly good, almost unused double bed.

Also, could anyone recommend anywhere to get children's double duvet covers? Most of them seem to be single ones.

Any other tips to help the move go smoothly gratefully accepted

Thanks!

John Lewis have quiet a few here. Their waterproof mattress covers are excellent too.

Having made the mistake of pushing too quickly with DS, I'd recommend taking off just one side of the cotbed and get her used to that first for a few weeks. Then use something like this or a rolled up towel under the sheet each side of the double bed.

I wouldn't ditch the double. DS stayed in his cotbed with sides off for less than 6m as next baby due. So he was in a full size single from 2.5 and loved it. He still (4yo) has his duvet the other way round so we can tuck it in well to make him feel more secure. We moved him 4m before dd was born so he didn't feel she'd stolen his bed. Worked well.
