Do the terrible twos start at 9 months?

My DS is almost 9 months.

I am talking refusing to be put into the high chair or stroller, making himself stiff... and he is freakishly strong! There is no reason to believe that he is uncomfortable in either.

Has anybody else got this? If this is a taster of what's to come...

haha dd1 started the terrible twos at birth. dd2 stated around 20 months and its more of a shock that way honestly - It was like she got worse by the day. Dd1 just stayed as dd1

Yup!

Discovering crawling/walking to 18 months was the hardest period in my opinion.

Fun but hard, enjoy and don't worry about it too much, they all have their moments!

yep they did for me. At least they know their own mind...!!

My 10 month old is the same, she’s also decided throwing her meals at me is hilarious. Whole crumpet to the face this morning.

My DS is like this too....in fact I've googled 9 month temper tantrums many a time! He's 10 months now and when he gets cross he flushes red and shakes both his hands angrily like in the cartoons. Ive never actually seen anyone do that before! It makes me laugh which is good because a lot of the time his temper fits drive me up the wall! I'm somewhat worried about how he will be as a toddler!

DD1 was exactly the same and I posted the exact same question on a forum.

DD2 however didn't hit them till she was 4!

Oh and if he gets hold of something he shouldn't have, you have to prise it away...his strength amazes me! I'm quite petite and he's going to be a real bruiser....I'm not sure how I'm going to carry him when he's a bit older as it's already a mission!

Apparently, I was a very tantrum-prone child myself, so it's definitely my baby....

Dd had her first tantrum aged 11mths when she woke up from her nap and discovered that ds and dh had gone out without her. I was but to be fair she didn't have many more till she hit 4yrs.

Thank you for starting this thread OP. My DS has had a personality transplant and is 9mo.
So far we've had tears over not being allowed to eat cotton wool and not being allowed to play with a hanger. Don't get him started on the audacity of 'That's not my elephant' to finish.

We had the mother of all temper tantrums from my 10 month last night. I am still in shock! DH is highly optimistic that we're starting early to finish early! He did a better job than his 21 month old sister, who in fairness doesn't tantrum particularly .... Well, she does, but she's still got her L Plates on, long may it continue, so we get crying temper fits and the occasional screaming fit but they're pretty brief. DS on the other hand would not stop for anything!

DS is at nursery now and sometimes a bit overtired in the evening (I have to wake him up in the morning earlier than he would wake up naturally - his demeanour at that is a bit like that of a teenager... if he had a duvet, he would pull it over his head).

But back to last evening: young man was overtired, had a screamfest in the bath and continued all the way through towelling off and bottle. When I put him into bed, I put his favourite teddy in his arms, he usually likes that. He threw it away from him as if it was poisonous, with a really determined look on his face.

In the end I just left he room - he was fast asleep within minutes...

Take heart. If they are showing their independence and strength now they will be easier to deal with when they are teenagers. Or at least so I'm told as my son was the same. We get on pretty well now but he is starting teenagerdom early too.

To be honest, I actually enjoy him developing a bit of personality and attitude! He is a lovely little baby / boy anyway! He looks more like a little boy than a baby, much older than his nine months. He is big and tall as well... can't believe that only nine months ago, I took a premature six pound six ouncer home from hospital who all but disappeared in the car seat....
