BCG vaccine for 2 month old

I got a letter saying DS has been booked in for his BCG next week when he'll be 10 weeks. He is a difficult baby at the best of times and I am dreading what his reaction to it might be, especially as Calpol apparently should only be given to babies 3 months and older. I'm not anti-vaccination at all but was wondering if it was worth delaying the BCG for a few weeks until he's old enough to be given something like Calpol? Or if there's any pain relief I can give him at 10 weeks?

Both mine had BCG very early.
I guess it depends on why you have been identified for vaccination as to if its worth delaying or not.
Neither of mine were upset afterwards, and Mummy cuddles and milk were the only comfort they got (DS1 was the ultimate velcro baby, so no difference there really).

How did he react to the 8 week vaccinations?

I'm sure calpol is from two months. Are u looking at inruprofen?

What would be the implications of delaying the vaccination? If you have to wait for the next scheduled slot, it might be a significant wait, unless you have it done privately.

There's not likely to be any ongoing pain as such from a vaccination, but he might feel a bit grotty for a few days afterwards, as the vaccination is effectively giving him a very mild dose of the disease. Your GP/nurse will advise you how best to minimise or control the symptoms - Calpol may not necessarily be the best bet.

If you look on the calpol bottles there's a new vaccination dose you can give.

To be honest DS was fine with it. His arm was a bit sore afterwards but that was it. It's not a deep injection like the others.

Ds2 had it at 8 weeks. He was totally fine after it, no issues at all

Thanks, that's good to know. Turns out it was Calprofen and not Calpol that I saw - Calpol is fine from two months.

DS is having his 8 week jabs tomorrow - he is actually 9 weeks but the doctor was on holiday last week. Am hoping he won't be extra hard wrk tomorrow evening. Wish me luck!

My DD had BCG at 6 days old. I don't think she had any calpol etc. All went ok.
