My ds2 is 3.3 and wants to be with me all the time. Follows me round at home and will cry at the stair gate if I go upstairs for a shower and he has to stay down stairs with daddy!

He attend nursery 5 mornings a week whilst I work and is fine goes off without any tears. But at home wants to be with me all the time. It's hard on dp as he loves him and tries hard to comfort him whilst I am not about. But he feels a bit sad that ds doesn't love daddy too!

Anyone else's 3 year old likes one parent more than the other? Any advice welcome.

My dd turns 3 next week. She has always been like this. A total mummy's girl. She too is happy to go to nursery but anywhere else, she wants me. It is going to be really fun when dd2 arrives in the next few weeks.
I have no advice but lots of sympathy.

My 3.7 year old goes through patches of this. For him it seems to coincide with developmental things (stopping nappies completely, suddenly getting really into mark-making, obvious leaps in his language) or with him being unwell. It's hard for DP but we both know it's not about loving me more, he just has a particular need at these times that I meet more easily.

I find the best strategy is to give him what he's asking for as much as I can - lots of cuddles, come back to sleep in with me at night - and it passes. IME this isn't a risky slippery slope, he seems to feel reassured by it and regains his independent self much more quickly than if I was resisting or refusing to indulge it.

Thanks for reply. It's good to know I am not alone. Let's hope someone will come along who can give us both some hope, and advice.
