stupid weaning questions

I'm sure these are daft questions but here goes. ..

  1. we started in baby rice, so far so good. Carrot tomorrow! The annabel karmel book says to cook it with butter to increase absorption of betacarotene. Does it mean add butter to the boiling water, or when mashing it?

  2. how do I warm the leftovers for DD for the next day? Is it safe to microwave? Or do I put the pot in hot water?

Told you they were daft... I may be over thinking this....

Thanks

I think you might be over thinking things.

I don't know the answers but my ds weaned recently without problem.

I would guess add butter to the carrot when mashing it up, I would be reluctant to do this at the start because it will alter the taste of the carrot and it is better in my opinion to encourage kids to eat veg without any extra flavours. If you do add butter make sure you buy unsalted.

I would just microwave the food, make it too hot for her to eat and then let it cool down.

Good luck, and have fun!

Thankyou Smile, appreciate it. We are very excited about weaning, she looooved the baby rice, I can't wait to see her reaction tomorrow!

Yes overthinking a little! Wink But I appreciate it's all new when you start weaning for the first time. I had many a confused question about what you can and can't freeze. I agree with the above advice, I followed Annabel karmel's Complete Baby and Toddler meal planner but I don't remember anything about adding butter at the beginning and I didn't do that. Just add a little water or milk (formula if baby is FF) to it if it needs thinning. Make everything in bulk and freeze it in silicon cubes to remove easily. Just defrost in the microwave then change to high setting and cook until hot, then stir and allow to cool. Veg only needs cooking for a few seconds, meat a bit longer when you get to that stage to make sure it is cooked through. Dd2 is nearly 18mo yet I still have a freezer drawer dedicated to bags of frozen cubes! Although these are now bolognese, moussaka and curry rather than carrot puree or parsnip. All the best with weaning!
