Big Bang Theory

Am I the only parent who thinks that showing Big Bang Theory at 6PM is not child appropriate ? As much as I love Big Bang Theory (and always appreciate that this sitcom made being geeky cool for a change) , I cringe at the sex scenes which are (1) completely not necessary to the story line (2) not appropriate to be watched by anyone under 13! Am I being prude her? What do other parents think?

Marg and Homer Simpson are always having sex when I catch the Simpsons.

isn't it showing on E4 at 6pm ? E4 is not a kids channel

Cimamenon1972 · 08/04/2014 19:12

Yes that's right, but ds is stuck on BBG , and for the right reasons I think, he wants to grow up to be an Astrophysicist alike one of the characters!

Unfortunately, ds is bored of the kids channels, watches only Finding Stuff out or other science related programmes on kids channels ??. Do you all think he should not watch Channel 4?

My seven yr old loves Big Bang, he doesn't really notice the sex bits as he thinks grown ups in love share a bed as myself and dh do. I wouldn't worry about it just watch them first, it could always be not on that week! If you are uncomftable with an episode!

everythingsgoingsouth · 08/04/2014 19:16

don't think I've ever seen a sex scene on BBT, there is lots of talking about it, it is relevant to the story as it is about a group of geeky, socially awkward guys who are usually unlucky with the ladies. That's sort of the point of the program.
just switch over, & year olds need their parents to monitor what they watch surely? especially on E4!

Wherediparkmybroom · 08/04/2014 19:17

They do show them in bed, it's not explicit and the jokes go over a seven yr olds head, my boy wants to be raj when he grows up!!!!!

LIZS · 08/04/2014 19:18

Is it any worse than Hollyoaks though ? E4 is not Ch 4

meditrina · 08/04/2014 19:21

The chances are that much of the adult content would go over children's heads, but I agree that even the TV version (with some cuts) is not really suitable for the under 10s (the unabrigded DVDs are cert12).

I'm more bothered when ITV decides to show Midsomer Murders mid-afternoon, as the murders simply don't just go over children's heads.

ophiotaurus · 08/04/2014 19:23

How about Mythbusters on discovery? It's really good if he's into science. They do lots of different experiments to confirm or disprove popular theories. How old is he?
I'd say Mythbusters is suitable from about ten or so. Maybe younger if they are a more mature child.
Some of the episodes have guns/explosives in them but there is no violence, they shoot bullets into gelatine to see effects. So if you aren't keen on that check the synopsis first.
There is also no swearing.

RunnerBeen · 08/04/2014 19:25

Why not? There's nothing graphic or any bad language etc. In fact i've seen all the episodes and i don't think i've ever witnessed a "sex scene".just shots of Leonard and Penny lying in bed talking

If you don't want your seven year old to watch it, don't put it on.

RayPurchase · 08/04/2014 19:33

I dont think it's bad. It's not graphically sexual.
The fucking Simpsons though - Itchy and Scratchy is NOT suitable for under 10s IMO. Way too violent and gory.

ImAThrillseekerHoney · 08/04/2014 19:39

Quest, Discovery and National Geographic channels are your friends. Bang Goes The Theory and even some of the BBC4 science doccos (recorded as on after bedtime) also good
