Bump = skull fracture or being stupid?

Last weekend my son ( 3 1/2 ) jumped up to give my husband a hug and caught the tip of his head on the husbands chin.
Husband screamed in pain, son thought it was funny, off we went to a theme park for the day.
Noticed a lump on sons head the next morning in the bath, probably size of a 50p, rock hard on the side of his head but towards the top, exactly where he would have gone into the chin.
It didn't hurt when I pushed ( and still pushing! ) on it, no other signs or symptoms and it's going down slowly but surely but I can't help wondering and stupidly googled skull fractures.
Would I know it if was one?
The lump is still rock hard although smaller and he says it doesn't hurt at all, which again I can't see how as surely it would be tender even if just a bump?
Sounds stupid but he's never had a bump on the head before and I have no idea if Id know if it was something more

Bumps generally mean less likely to be skull fracture as the swelling is on the outside rather than inside the skull

But like all head injuries, if you are worried, see a doctor
