Coping with 2 under 2

I really can't believe this but I think I might be pregnant. ( 5 days late). Have one dd of 9 mths and a 15 year old ds! Only had sex a couple of times since the birth (bad I know but just haven't felt like it) I had to come of the pill for medical reasons so used the withdrawal method once. How do you lot cope with 2 under 2, also throw an unruly teenager into the mix. One part of me would be quite happy as I did want another one, but just not yet. I also have a colposcopy appointment for an abnormal smear booked for April 7th. Can they do this if I'm pregnant??

don't know about the smear - but coping with 2 under 2 is not so bad. I had 3 under 2 ( twins following 18 months after ds1). At times it is hell but I think that is the case whatever combination you have. The rest of the time it is fun, especially as they get older and play more together.

Lots of people cope with small age gaps, often easier when kids get older.

I hope everything works ok with the smear.

Thanks throckenholt. I did want another baby so maybe it is the best way to have them close together. I think I'll take a walk to the chemists to get a test.

I've got two with 19 months between them (youngest now 8 mnths). I was pretty daunted at first but though it's pretty frantic it is getting easier every day. I'm actually quite enjoying it now and looking forward to them growing up together. I don't know about the smear but if you do get a positive I would get in touch with doc/hospital asap to let them know. I really hope you get the right result for you ! Good luck!

Hiya magnum - have you got your test? Got a result yet? I'm quite excited for you.

I had 2 under 2 - just. We have 22 months age gap. It is hard at times, but generally I love having them close in age, especially now that they are older. I would definitely go for a close age gap again if I had my time over.

Bless Magnum!!! Can't comment on the 2 under 2 as I've just got the one at the moment - fancy another one though . Mum had 5 in 7 years then had a breather for 7 years before having another 2 (again, one year apart). Often ask her how she coped and her reply is alway the same "I just did". You will too. Your 9 month old will be an eager "helper" and will be a live in playmate for the baby. It might even give the 15 year old something else to think about other than his hormones and getting into mischief!! Good luck hon

Took a test and it was neg. I'm quite surprised that I feel a bit dissapointed! Not sure how accurate it was as I plunged the stick in above the max line and it says on the packet that doing that voids the result, but I'm sure I would have had some sort of 2nd line appear had it been pos. Haven't a clue why I'm so late as I'm usually as regular as clockwork. Might give it a few days and do another test.

I have a 21 month gap between my boys, for the first 8 months I found it relatively easy going as DS2 slept a lot and was an angel of a baby, hardly ever cried etc complete opposite of DS1. It was when DS2 got to 8 months things got much harder, doesn't help if your husband works really long hours! All I can say is now DS2 is nearly 2 and they are great mates, they are always playing together if we are at home and rarely get bored as they have a playmate on site all the time, so I think it has been worth all of the hard work and I wouldn't change it. However if we go for a third I would definitely leave it until my youngest was 3!

I have a 16 mnth gap between my ds and dd. it was hard at first but soon became easier as they have always occupied each other. good luck

Magnum, Have you done another test yet? I'm dying to know!!!

magnum · 09/04/2004 10:27

No my period eventually arrived, but in the light of my smear problems and the fact that I will probably need surgery it is probably for the best. I have decided I do want another baby though when I'm sorted out
