Beds and bedding

Hi,

I am preparing to move my 26 months dd into a proper single bed shortly.
what and how much bed linen will I need? Also what duvets are the best at this age.
Also, any tips on how to do the transition etc? She is very active in her sleep and also I can imagine she will get out of bed to play with her toys. How do I deal with this? Do you use a stair gate on room door?

Any tips would be very welcome

We took the side off the cot first, to get them used to the extra freedom, and yes, used a stairgate on the door when needed. You will need a 4.5 tog duvet (perhaps an extra blanket for next winter), and I find three fitted sheets plus two duvet covers and two pillowcases is plenty.

Agree with pp, also these are very useful to stop them falling out.

DS is very active so he still at nearly 4 has his duvet put horizontally and firmly tucked in both sides so he can't fall out at all. We've dispensed with the bumpers though.

Also, an essential is a good waterproof mattress cover. The John Lewis ones are superb but don't tumble dry so you may need 2 around night potty training time.

Finally, from bitter experience, leave her in a cot as long as you possibly can...

All other advice is great. Only thing I would add is to remember that they are OK in a cot - don't feel bad about going back to it if they aren't ready. I put my 22 month old dd into her toddler bed, had a gate on the door, a bed side to stop her falling out etc. After a week of hell putting her back to bed 20 times a night, we gave up and went back to the cot, and her normal good sleeping and easy bedtimes resumed immediately.
At 27 months she last week asked me for a big girls bed. We're now one week in, and so far she's been an angel. Obviously just ready now!
